  • One of the best things about our home province of Cebu is that our humble island is jam-packed with so many unique natural wonders. Come to think of it, each municipality has its own set of “specialty” attractions, and many more are still being discovered. Cebu is like a paradise of multiple facets. It’s no wonder then why so many visitors, local or foreign, fall in love with Cebu.

One of these natural wonders is the unique horseshoe waterfall of Tumalog Falls in Oslob, a municipality 170 kilometers from Cebu City. Lately, it has gotten a lot of attention after it became a side trip for people who wish to see the butandings. Since our early-year excursion ended in Oslob, we decided to make Tumalog Falls our last stopover.

    GETTING THERE

In Cebu City, head to the South Cebu Bus Terminal and take a bus bound for Oslob. Tell the driver to drop you off at the jump-off to Tumalog Falls. Here, there are habal-habal that can be rented, but, again, you may choose to go slow and trek.

Allow me to also mention that should you choose to stay at Bluewater Sumilon, they’d be happy to assist you in this adventure. They also arrange tours to nearby destinations.

    TIPS AND OTHER CONCERNS

    – The earliest bus form Cebu City to Oslob is at 2AM. Bus leaves every hour.
    – The attraction is open as early as 7AM
    – Pets are not allowed in the pools
    – There are designated areas for cooking and eating
    – There are stores near the jump-off
    – There is plenty of parking space

    FEES AND ESTIMATED BUDGET
    (per person unless otherwise stated)
    Bus Fare (Cebu City vv Oslob – Php155 x 2) = Php310
    Habal-habal Fare (Jump-off to Registration Area – Php50 x 2) = Php100, roundtrip, good for two
    Registration Fee – Php20
Recommended budget per person inclusive of incidentals = Php700

    Facilities Available

Close, but not so close, to the waterfalls, you can avail some of the following facilities to better enjoy your experience. There are…

    • Cottages and tables for rent, hundred yards away from the falls
    • Bamboo raft for rent
    • Some light food/snacks, such as fresh coconut

    Things you might need

Since this area is watery and wet, you need to wear or bring the following items with you for safer and enjoyable experience:

    • Waterproof sandals or shoes
    • Umbrellas, hat, sarong
    • Snacks, softdrinks, drinking water, etc
    • Vinyl or plastic bags,
    • Extra shirts, clothes, sunblock
    • Swimming suites, trunks

These are the basic things you would need and no need to worry about other things.

    Finding Tumalog Falls

Here’s how you can get to Tumalog Falls. When you have decided to see this nature’s wonder, be sure you are ready to enjoy it.

Location: Barangay Luka, Oslob Municipality, Cebu 6025, Philippines

    Getting There

Take a bus from Cebu South Bus Terminal down to the national highway drop off in Barangay Luka. Let the driver or conductor know that you are getting off at the crossing for Tumalog Waterfall.

From there, you can hire a single motorbike (locally called ‘habal-habal) that can take more than one back-riders.
